Bridges

A fixed, natural-looking gap-filler

A missing tooth affects more than the way your smile looks — it changes how you bite, speak, and how the surrounding teeth sit over time. A dental bridge is a fixed, permanent restoration that fills the gap by anchoring a replacement tooth to the healthy teeth on either side. At Cardiff Dental and Aesthetics Centre, every bridge is custom-made to match the colour, shape, and size of your natural teeth.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth. It works by anchoring an artificial tooth (or teeth) to the natural teeth or crowns on either side of the gap — effectively ‘bridging’ the space. Modern bridges are made from strong, tooth-coloured materials such as porcelain or ceramic, so they blend naturally with your existing teeth.

Why choose a dental bridge?

Replacing missing teeth matters for both your oral health and your confidence.

  • Restore your smile — A complete, natural-looking row of teeth — without the gap.

  • Eat and speak naturally — A stable, fixed solution that lets you chew and talk without worry.

  • Prevent tooth shifting — A bridge keeps neighbouring teeth from drifting into the gap, protecting your bite long-term.

  • Maintain facial shape — Replacement teeth support the cheeks and lips, preventing the sagging that can follow tooth loss.

Your journey to a complete smile

Most bridges take two visits. Here’s the journey:

  • 1

Consultation and assessment — We examine your teeth and discuss whether a bridge is the right option — implants and partial dentures are also on the table if they suit your situation better.

  • 2

Tooth preparation — The teeth next to the gap are carefully prepared so crowns can support the bridge. An impression or digital scan creates your custom-made bridge.

  • 3

Temporary bridge — A temporary restoration protects the prepared teeth while your permanent bridge is being crafted.

  • 4

Final bridge placement — Once ready, your bridge is securely fitted and adjusted to make sure it feels natural when you bite and chew.

Frequently asked questions about Bridges

How long do dental bridges last?

With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, modern bridges typically last 10–15 years. The supporting teeth and gum health play a big part in longevity.

Is a dental bridge better than an implant?

Both are excellent options — which is right for you depends on your specific needs, budget, and long-term goals. Bridges are typically faster to complete; implants offer a longer-lasting, more independent restoration. We’ll talk you through both at your consultation.

How do I care for my dental bridge?

Brush twice daily and floss carefully around and under the bridge using floss threaders or interdental brushes. Regular professional cleanings help catch any issues early.

Will a bridge affect how I eat and speak?

Once fitted and adjusted, a bridge should feel natural. Eating and speaking return to normal quickly, and most people find they can enjoy their favourite foods without any change.
