Dental Implants

The gold standard for a lifetime of confidence

At Cardiff Dental and Aesthetics Centre, we understand that a missing tooth is about more than just a gap in your smile — it’s about how you feel when you laugh, the way you speak, and the simple pleasure of enjoying your favourite meal. Our mission is to help our Cardiff neighbours regain their confidence with dental implants: the most advanced, permanent solution for tooth loss.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small, sturdy post made of biocompatible titanium that acts as a replacement for a tooth root. It is surgically placed into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over time. This provides a solid foundation for a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture.

Why choose implants?

Unlike traditional bridges or dentures, implants don’t rely on neighbouring teeth for support. They offer several unique benefits:

  • Prevent bone loss — Implants stimulate the jawbone just like natural roots, preventing the facial "sunken" look that can occur with missing teeth.

  • Eat with confidence — Enjoy your favourite foods, from crunchy apples to steak, without worrying about your teeth slipping or clicking.

  • Natural aesthetics — We custom-shade and shape your new teeth to blend naturally with your existing smile.

  • Durability — With proper care and routine check-ups, dental implants are designed to last a lifetime.

The implant process: what to expect

Getting an implant is a multi-step journey, and we’re with you every step of the way.

  • 1

Comprehensive consultation — We use digital imaging to assess your jawbone density and create a personalised treatment plan.

  • 2

Implant placement — The titanium post is gently placed into the jaw. You’ll be kept comfortable throughout with local anaesthesia or sedation options.

  • 3

Healing & osseointegration — Over a few months, your bone naturally grows around the implant, locking it securely in place.

  • 4

The final restoration — Once healed, we attach your custom-crafted crown. You’ll walk out with a full, beautiful, functional smile.

Frequently asked questions about Dental Implants

What is the recovery time after implant surgery?

While every patient is unique, most people return to work and their normal routine within 24 to 48 hours. You may experience some mild swelling or tenderness for a few days, which can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and a soft-food diet. The deep healing (where the bone bonds to the implant) takes a few months, but you won’t feel this happening.

How much do dental implants cost?

The cost of an implant depends on several factors, including the number of teeth being replaced and whether any preparatory procedures (like bone grafting) are needed. While implants have a higher upfront cost than bridges or dentures, they are a lifetime investment. Because they don’t require replacement every few years and protect your jaw health, they are often the most cost-effective long-term solution.

How long do dental implants last?

When properly cared for with brushing, flossing, and regular professional checkups, dental implants are designed to be a permanent solution that can last the rest of your life.

Does the dental implant procedure hurt?

Your comfort is our top priority. Most patients report that the procedure is much easier than they anticipated. We use local anaesthetic to completely numb the area, and for those who feel extra nervous, we offer various sedation options to ensure a relaxed, pain-free experience.
